On Saturday 31st May 2008, we held a pony club competition afternoon. The competition was enjoyed by all and included both dressage and show jumping.
The competition began with dressage; a British Horse society test which the competetors had previously learnt. The test included many transitions, circles and changes of rein with a focus on accuracy and precision. Ben Bushell gained the highest score in the dressage test closely followed by Jared Eagland, Fiona Sach came third and Alex Weller fourth. It was the first time many competitors had ridden a dressage test in a competition situation and hence it was a very valuable experience.
The competetors then moved on to the show jumping section which consisted of two parts; firstly a course of lower jumps with lots of tricky tight turns and changes of rein, followed by a course of higher jumps against the clock. A clear round was needed in the first section in order to move on to the second section of the competition. Fortunately everyone, after a few hair raising moments achieved a clear round in the first section and the fastest time was achieved by Ben Bushell followed by Jared Eagland in second place. Merry Norris gained third place and Zoë Tolley finished fourth.
Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon and it was a great way to put into practice what we had learnt in riding lessons during the Spring term. Congratulations to all; Ben Bushell and Prince, Jared Eagland and Ludlow, Maddie Merry-Weather and Archie, Merry Norris and Chelsea, Abigail Roels and Sally, Fiona Sach and Smokey, Zoë Tolley and Billy and Alex Weller and Nutmeg.
