Pony Club Competition Afternoon

On Saturday 31st May 2008, we held a pony club competition afternoon. The competition was enjoyed by all and included both dressage and show jumping.

The competition began with dressage; a British Horse society test which the competetors had previously learnt. The test included many transitions, circles and changes of rein with a focus on accuracy and precision. Ben Bushell gained the highest score in the dressage test closely followed by Jared Eagland, Fiona Sach came third and Alex Weller fourth. It was the first time many competitors had ridden a dressage test in a competition situation and hence it was a very valuable experience.

The competetors then moved on to the show jumping section which consisted of two parts; firstly a course of lower jumps with lots of tricky tight turns and changes of rein, followed by a course of higher jumps against the clock. A clear round was needed in the first section in order to move on to the second section of the competition. Fortunately everyone, after a few hair raising moments achieved a clear round in the first section and the fastest time was achieved by Ben Bushell followed by Jared Eagland in second place. Merry Norris gained third place and Zoë Tolley finished fourth.

Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon and it was a great way to put into practice what we had learnt in riding lessons during the Spring term. Congratulations to all; Ben Bushell and Prince, Jared Eagland and Ludlow, Maddie Merry-Weather and Archie, Merry Norris and Chelsea, Abigail Roels and Sally, Fiona Sach and Smokey, Zoë Tolley and Billy and Alex Weller and Nutmeg.

Fun Pony Days in the Holidays

There are always lots of fun things to do at the stables over the holidays. Make some new pony mad friends.

There are half day camps for those new to riding, and one, two and three day camps for the more expert riders. In the summer there are SleepOver two day camps (over night stay optional) and for those who can’t get enough of the stables there are five day residential camps. The camps are huge fun and a enormous way of improving your riding. Lots of lessons and drill rides, and a chance to try vaulting which is probably the best way of gaining confidence and balance on horse back. You will learn how to get on and off a moving horse, sit sideways, backwards and even stand up on a moving horse.

Have you ever ridden a proper dressage test or jumped a full set of show jumps. NO?? Then get your summer camp booked and we can spend a day practising followed by a friendly competition . At the end of the week we finish with a show where you get a chance to show off your new skills, perform a drill ride and the ever popular fancy dress competition. If you sleep over you will have time for fun in the evening like a camp fire in the wood and lots of games. Summer campers sleep in bunk beds in the gallery supervised by a female member of staff.

If you are not sure if you would like to try a pony day or summer camp have a look at the photos in the gallery and see what great fun you could have ! Residential camps are marked as such on the timetable. but if you want to join them just for a day then that's not a problem.

Vaulting Day

Photos from the vaulting competition held at Meca. A few of our riders may not have seen vaulting before. It is a surprise to see vaulters standing and back flipping off a cantering horse. We were pleased to have teams from Scotland and England. It was great for the younger vaulters to see some of the stunning performances of the more experienced teams. We would like to thank all the teams for their support and hope to see them in the future. Meca’s team had a super first event we all learnt a great deal and hope to build on our success.
